PROJECT CATWALK AT THE CREATIV FESTIVAL 2012

Maria, Caroline, Meaghan, Amy (the model) and Margaret at the Creativ Festival 2012
The picture does not do the garment justice as the workmanship is very fine and
understated in the true tradition of fine tailors these students paid tribute to
the 1930's fashion designer Elsa Schaperelli with the sillouhette of a face
complete with hand embroidered lips, eye, eye lashes and brows also the outline
of the face. The "hair" was ripped slinky with a silver tinge on one side and
black on the other, some was stitched directly on the fabric while some was
braided and then sewn on to the half shawl, half cape. They shaped the shoulder
incline on one side like a cape to stay on the shoulder and not slip off.
Ingenious! These talented women also custom made gloves that fit "like a
glove"! The fabrics chosen were a wool for the skirt and cape, silk for the top
and lining for both the skirt and cape (yes they lined the whole outifit!) There
was also a tulle hat with fabric roses. The work in this outifit was unreal for
the amount (or lack thereof) time allowed. This teacher is one very proud
person!!! The competitors were Caroline, Meaghan and Margaret whose hard
work was evident in the quality and very subtle nuances of this garment.

Creativ Needlework Festival Octorber 12, 13 and 14, 2012

This year's Festival promises to be big as it's the 25th anniversary! The Demistifying Marfy class of October 11, 2012 has already sold out once again! It's a rare 6 hour class with a tutorial at the beginning on how to make the necessary adjustments for an impeccable fit. Students are excited at the prospect of another Project Catwalk competition as am I. They always do Georgian College proud and this year will be no exception. Last year Amy and Denise did a FANTASTIC job on the garment, hard to believe they only had 2 and half days to create it and in the true Le Grand Chic Italia tradition the fit was impeccable! www.creativfestival.ca
