So what does one do when one has a bit of time on their hands? One makes some summer clothes that what!!!
It all started when I purchased a purse for my granddaughter's first communion in a very light cucumber green, I love the purse but had precious little to wear it with, that was a problem. I bought some fabric to complement the purse, the floral print to make a pair of leggings, then the linen to make the "boyfriend" shirt, they looked great together!
The black spandex fabric was in the stash and earmarked for a specific shirt well I finally worked up the nerve to try it not with the results I was hoping for so when life throws you lemons what do you do? Make lemonade of course! Got my creative juices flowing, but first I slept on it because that is the way for me to get the best possible results in the end I decided to create some strips of the same fabric to insert into the shoulders and down the elbow length sleeve. The results were so good I added the same treatment to the sides just below the waist to the hem... well this led to the nude colour leggings just to make people do a double take to see if there are pants on or not LOL!! Got to have some fun!!
Now I had some of the floral fabric left over and thought it would make a nice top so this afternoon I got busy and in a couple of hours created the tank top! Did I mention the leggings are with no side seams and the each took about one hour to complete! Yes folks once you have a pattern that fits it takes no time at all to put together clothes. The tops took a little longer but then there are a lot of details on them. The linen top has a ribbon finishing at the neckline that was hand sewn plus it is all with flat-fell seams and topstitching. Click here to see pix
One of my students called me today teasing me saying that I will have time to make a whole new wardrobe by the time the next weekend retreat is here, well the joke was on her because that collection was already almost finished!! Next up is a pair of denim capris and a pink top that I have been toying with for a while and now I think I have a plan, stay tuned for updates!!
Have a great long weekend, hopefully it will be good weather.
