For kind of falling into teaching I certainly am enjoying the experience especially when the students blow me away with their creations, to the point I had to remove the creativity portion out of the grading and stick to the nuts and bolts of fit and workmanship, it either fits or it doesn't, it is either well done or it's not, this is easy to grade. The creativity factor is very subjective and with the level of creativity students have shown all I could do was give full marks so it was an easy grade, but not any more, everything counts, the garments must look as though they have been sculpted to the body, painted on if you will, not slapped together haphazardly and hope for the best. Students are given rubrics for both fit and workmanship to use as guides and to have a clear picture of what is expected - perfection pretty much sums it up.... with the grades my students have been receiving perfection is not far off!
Beginners don't be intimidated once you start creating and wearing your own custom garments you will never go back to off the rack ever again, the level of comfort is beyond compare and the freedom of choice is unparalleled. It is so worth the effort of learning how to draft and sew to wear something unique that fits
