Jill is working very hard at the pants with great success I might add! She came with a mock up of the newly adjusted pattern that fit PERFECTLY! "Now what am I supposed to teach?" I asked with a great big smile!
So we carried on with adding the pockets both front and back to the pants draft as well as the front fly zipper and then traced the pattern pieces. It had been 2 weeks since the last class and Jill was quite comfortable with starting a new draft, just zipped right through it but then we compared the pants back to the previous pattern and well there were a few issues with measuring accurately. By that I mean adding the front leg measurements to the back and then making the back adjustments, this is something I insist on for accuracy in fact on exams students lose marks if I don't see the front measurements transferred to the back. A good way of remembering that were indeed transferred is to mark them in a different colour pencil. All in all it was a great class.
I love it when students add to their homework and Jill really added to her homework!
Homework is to create storyboards of the front fly zipper, welts and pockets using mine as a guide. Trace the pattern pieces for the front and back including the pressing lines, pocket placements etc, please bring them with you the next time. Also pick different measurements and make a new draft adding in the front, back pocket placements and the front fly zipper.
Next class we will be creating a finished pair of pants including waistband so practice, practice, practice...
