New phase at Le Grand Chic Italia School of Fashion

11/27/2015

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you this, my tenure at Georgian has come to and end.  The European Pattern and Garment Making program will no longer be available at Georgian College, it will only be taught at Le Grand Chic Italia School of Fashion with the new year.
The reasons for my leaving are personal, I totally enjoyed my time at Georgian and I hope they enjoyed having me on their roster of instructors.  We have left a door open for intensive classes that can be taught in a short period of time, perhaps some seminars as well but as for the regular classes they will be at my studio only.
I thank Georgian staff for always being helpful and accommodating, it has been a pleasure to work with you over these 8 years!

La Modellista final class November 26, 2015

11/27/2015

Thank you ladies for another wonderful semester!
It is truly a pleasure to teach you and spend time with you.  Everyone always does such a great job with all the work there is to do and the creativity that is evident in this class is unreal.
There have been some personal decisions made by me that will have an effect on this class so we are fast tracking you to the Italian diploma.  That doesn't mean you will be learning less or I will cut corners, absolutely not!  You will get all the instruction necessary to graduate with honours and receive your diploma from Italy.  I have posted the course dates for the spring please be sure you can attend all the classes when the time comes or you will be missing out on pertinent information.
As I said on the home page we will be taking our foot off the gas pedal and focus more on the quality of the work rather than the quantity of the drafts.  You have proven that you are up to the task of keeping up with the program so we are now going to refine the construction and finishing skills making you better tailors than you already are :)
Have a great Holiday Season, be safe and enjoy.

Thursday November 19, 2015 la modellista homework

11/22/2015

Hello ladies it's Sunday and I only have the buttonholes to do on my jacket!  Worked on it Friday afternoon and a bit Saturday morning to reach the point of adding the buttonholes, my machine is not here or they would have been done already.
Where are you ladies at on your jackets?  Keep working on the jackets remember they are due at the end of class for grading.  If there is still work to be done you can do during class that's why I left the last class to finish up outstanding items that need to be handed in.  These really are simple jackets and sewn together simply, there are no pockets, no padstitching, no extra work so they should have come together very easily.  Please don't overthink things just go it will be alright and the finished product will look and feel great!
I am sad this is the last class but we all need a break to deal with Christmas etc.  See you Thursday!

Tuesday November 17, 2015 final tops class

11/18/2015

Hello all I have to say that you all did very well in this class!  I enjoyed having you all in my class and sharing some of my knowledge with you.  I hope you enjoyed learning I know the first time that someone attends these classes, no matter which one, is quite an eye opener.  The possibilities are truly endless, your imagination being the only limit, it takes time to learn don't misunderstand, and it can't be rushed but the end result is truly worth the effort. When you see a picture or sketch something out, draft it then wear it the feeling is beyond words especially when it fits well!
I look forward to continuing the classes in the spring in the meantime keep drafting those tops.
Have a great day

Thursday November 12, 2015 la modellista homework

11/13/2015

Hello all your homework for this week is to do as much as you can on the jacket everyone is at a different place so I will have to assess the work individually.  We checked the pattern pieces on Thursday and in some cases there are corrections to be made please make them then go ahead and start cutting the jacket.  I suggested that the fusible interfacing to be used is the weft interfacing, it works best for jackets if you are not sure where to fuse it bring in the cut pieces to class and it can be fused at the beginning of class.  Please bring your sewing machine to continue working in class.  There are only 3 classes to complete this task and next week is class number 2, by the end of the class you should be at the point of adding the lining to the jacket in the last class that way it can be handed in and marked all in one night!
Those of you who still need to hand in patterns please don't forget them or you will receive a 0......
Have a great week!

Tuesday November 10, 2015 homework

11/13/2015

Hello ladies sorry for the delay in posting your homework.  Great job on the test!  For your homework this week if you haven't already done so please draft the top on page 66 - 67 with the dart manipulation shifting the base dart to the neckline.  If you got it done in class then it's done!
The other thing is to practice a front and back draft by memory, the exam is a closed book exam.  From the test you should have figured out where you need to improve or work on so that is your homework for this week.
Great job Audrey in the fashion show, the very first top you sewed from your own draft was exceptional, too bad it was not graded you would have received pretty much a perfect score like you did on the pants.
Have a great week!

Saturday November 7 fashion show

11/8/2015

Congratulations tailors!  You did yourselves and me very proud!  I can't wait to see the garments up close as I got only glimpses of the updated designer garments between trying to read my lines.  The show was a great success with good feedback from the audience.  We had a little glitch with the power point presentation but that was a minor setback so I unplugged it and the show went on to amaze the audience members.  The fit of the garments was impeccable as expected.
I want to thank you all for the hard work that went into creating the garments, taking time out of your life to participate in the fashion show your efforts do not go unnoticed however you will still get marked as tough as ever that will not change :)
I would like to thank the hair salon and the first year students for doing a bang up job on the hair, everyone looked amazing even mine turned out well!  It was a great night all around!

Thursday November 5, 2015 la modellista homework

11/6/2015

Hello all this Saturday is the fashion show at Georgian, we are as ready as we will be at this point.
Because of this the jacket we drafted last night that was supposed to be done as a mock up will only be done as a master pattern and pattern pieces unless you plan to use it as the final jacket, in that case it must be done as a mock up.  I thought I would give you ladies a break this week, you have been working very hard at completing all the homework....
For next week please bring your fabric, lining, interfacing, pattern pieces and master pattern for the jacket of your choice.  We will be cutting the jacket in class and marking.  If there is time we can sew the lining together so if you like bring your sewing machines, my crystal ball is a bit foggy at this point to tell you definitely whether or not to bring your machine so do what you want!
I am very excited for the fashion show tomorrow and know you will all shine with your fabulous garments!

Tuesday November 3, 2015 tops and dresses homework

11/4/2015

Hello ladies there  is no homework this week except to study for the test next week, I have been putting the test off until I was sure you were all ready for it, I can put it off no longer.  I am confident you will all do very well.  Study the sheets I handed out and do a few small practice sketches of a basic front block just to see if you can do it without looking at the book.  Study the blue square, scales and their meanings as well.
Next week we will be playing with the base dart and learn how to put TWO darts into a draft that will be transformed into pleats.  This is called dart manipulation and we do a lot of this as we progress in the program.
Have a great week!

Daytime TV appearance today

11/4/2015

Danielle Talaska and I made an appearance on Daytime TV on Rogers cable 10 in Barrie.  It was amazing, Danielle was very excited to be there and she did a great job!
We were asked about the program and what it involves I let Danielle answer the question from a students' perspective.  She was very eloquent and descriptive, never mind looking HOT in her new skirt she made for the show!  Don't feel for her it tooK a whole 1/2 hour from pattern to finished product;  this is Danielle speed! :)
If you want to catch the whole interview the show airs again at 4 and 11 pm on channel 10 in Barrie.  I will also go online later in the week so you can still see us if you can't today.

Toodles!!!
