Hello ladies great job last week on the top almost everyone finished it! The cape is still a work in progress and that is fine as long as it's finished before the end of the course.
This coming Saturday we will be starting on the mock princess dress with sleeves and a neckline of your choice. Please bring in the completed garments you have so far for grading.
Great workmanship in the sewing class! The grades of the last class really show exactly how good you ladies really are!
Have a great day.
Hello ladies this is the last class for the sleeves section and you know what that means an exam, don't cringe it's nothing you haven't done before!
I would recommend drafting a pattern with the book closed using different measurements and then checking your work. In the exam there will be a series of questions on the sleeves, you will be asked to draft a basic set in sleeve and a few variations, you were asked to draft a front and back with pre-determined measurements do not add any armhole adjustments they will be done as part of the exam.
After the exam if time permits we can cover the cap sleeve.
Great job everyone!!
Hello ladies I can't believe that tomorrow is the last class! Please bring in your bustier for grading along with the reflection sheet consisting of three paragraphs outlining what you have learned from this assignment, any difficulties you may have faced and what aspect of the whole thing stood out for you.
The last class we will be drafting either the dress that was not drafted last week or a dress of your choice that you would like to draft. Fantastic job ladies!
We were invited to put on a fashion show for the Kinette club once again on April 25 (tentative date) the premise will be an evening in Paris students are to choose a French fashion designer of the past and update the look. Please provide a picture of the look with a paragraph on why you chose it by January 15, 2015 or sooner. This will be sent to Veronique she will create a power point presentation to be used during the show while models walk. A mock up should be done by January 30, 2015, the first fitting by the end of February, second fitting by mid March with the finished garment due by April 15, 2015.
Above is a timeline of how the work should progress to minimize stress. These are hard deadlines to adhere to, create your own soft deadlines. The picture and paragraph is to be sent to me and I will forward it to Veronique.
Thank you all for your co-operation it is such a worthy cause and a great experience for all. Seeing that next week is our last week together I would like some idea as to how far you are on this project.
Hello ladies what a great way to spend a Saturday!
I believe it was for next class that we are doing the Dolman and raglan sleeve tops, it was decided by the class that for the Dolman sleeve top they would like to do a cape instead. It is very similar and will be even more challenging to complete. So please have the materials with you, if you like you can bring them in on Friday and leave them in the office for Saturday.
The raglan sleeve top will be made in a knit fabric and finished with either a ribbing or binding at the neckline, that will be a personal choice by the individual students.
The cape can be simply lined or made as a reversible garment, there is also the option of adding a layer of thinsulate between the layers for extra warmth, again this will be a personal choice made by the individuals.
Yes this will be all done in ONE DAY! If I am wrong please contact me and let me know. The reason was that some of the students were going to be away for the last class and this was the assignment to be completed on that day, so it was switched to next week with the mock princess dress being completed the last two weeks of the course.
Have a great week!
Hello all hope you are all enjoying our wonderful wintery weather!
For this week you are to trace the pattern pieces for both drafts done in class (pages 81 & 84) they are to be labelled, marked with notches at the necessary points to match the pattern pieces and grainlines. You were shown how to trace the pieces in class please follow the example.
Next week we will be drafting an actual raglan for woven fabrics as shown on page 111 and then reviewing the set in sleeve for the final exam the following week. Hard to believe that this course is over, feels like it just started!
Have a great week!
Hello all my site is working well for a change :)
Your homework for this week is to trace the pattern pieces for the dress we drafted in class last night on page 60. The bodice needs to be traced in two steps as shown, if you have time create a mock up as well. Only the front will be sufficient to understand how the bodice comes together. Next week we will be drafting the cowl neck as a top I am going to show a trick to make it fall beautifully around the neckline! If there is time we can start on the the dress with the mid-riff as well. Next week is the second last week of class :( not sure where the time went but I know that all of you will have a beautiful bustier to wear it must be handed in at the beginning of the last class for marking.
Have a great week!
Hello ladies can I say what a great job you are doing in this class! This coming Saturday we will be finishing with the princess cut dress with sleeves a mock up has to be fit before cutting the fabric. If you don't have a mock up done please try to get it done before Satu Please have your fabric and all the materials needed to complete the task.
Hello all and sorry for the delay in writing I have been having some issues with the site. Anyway if I remember correctly I believe for homework I assigned a draft of the Dolman sleeve using personal measurements. We covered it in class and I want to see what you have retained. There will be a review of this method in class as well as tracing the pattern pieces and then we are going to start on the raglan for knits.
Have a great week!
Hello all hope you are all well, a lot missing last night..... Anyway this was the last class for the bustier for the most part everyone is at a good point and can finish it on their own. If you still have some outstanding issues or need a little more help with putting it together I can allow 2 - 3 people to come in on Saturday November 8 in the afternoon for a couple of hours (2 to 4) and work during the sewing class so if there are any problems you can help each other address them. Talk among yourselves to see who needs the most help and let me know ASAP who is coming and what the issues are.
This has been a challenging assignment to say the least..... but one that everyone learned a lot from so it's for this reason that I would like you to write a short one page (3 paragraphs minimum) reflection paper on what you have taken away from this assignment, the issues you encountered along the way, how they were overcome and most importantly what was most valuable lesson you learned by doing the task. This paper will be due at the same time as the garment is handed in the beginning the last class. The bustiers will be graded in class so you can take them home with you. The papers will stay with me so they can be read.
Have a great week!
