Hello again! I wanted to let my students know that if they would like to attend the Creativ Festival they can do so online using their student ID number for a great deal of only $5 for a weekend pass!!! Can't beat that deal. Also purchase a parking pass online for a better deal than paying per visit.
ciao off to Thanksgi
Hello ladies, what a fun class! A great group of women in the class to work with and it was especially nice to have Dana attend the class in Barrie last night!
For your homework this week please create a basic pencil skirt pattern using your own measurements with a slit at the centre back as it shows in the book, 12 cm high by .5 cm at the very bottom. Next week we will be adding the markings to the pattern pieces and then cutting the mock up in class. We will also be transferring the markings from the paper to the fabric then sewing it together by hand to try on in class so we can see how they fit and if there are any issues to be dealt with before we go on.
So for next week please bring to class the following:
Hello ladies, too bad some of you were unable to attend last night's class, for your benefit here is a synopsis of what transpired:
class was divided into 2 sections to sew the skirt with rouching on the princess lines, one section was to pleat both sides first then stitch the seam together while the other section was to stitch the seam together and then pleat the front, we came together and discussed the findings once everyone was finished. The twist here was that this week's homework is to reverse the groups so the first group is to stitch the seam first and then pleat while the second group is to pleat first and then stitch the seam together (the front only). Those of you who were not able to make the class, sorry, you get to do both; only one has to be a finished mock up (doesn't matter which one) the other is only a front.
We also did the skirt with the left front pleats and back box pleat, for the most part they were finished in class, the ones who did not finish are to finish it for homework. This is the other part of the homework assignment for the absent students.
The class is also to choose one of the styles from the 3 we have done and make a skirt they will wear, it will be completely finished with lining, waistband and zipper. If you choose the asymmetrical with buttons down the side front, I will allow you to use snaps or other enclosures of your choice. This assignment must be handed in by the end of class October 31, 2013 giving you 3 weeks in which to complete the task; remember what I said about deadlines and setting a soft deadline and a hard deadline. There will be no extensions as the original time period was 2 weeks but it falls on the festival week that there are no classes so I extended it.
Speaking of the Festival, it has been brought to my attention that students may purchase weekend passes online for only $5 with their student ID, that's right only $5 for the WHOLE WEEKEND!
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
Hello ladies and can I say what a great time I had teaching this class Friday night! It is truly my pleasure to be your teacher.
For you homework this week please draft a basic pencil skirt using your own personal measurements. If you did one in class already then please draft one with another set of measurements, the 1/2 waist, 1/2 hip and skirt length are what is required so far. Be sure to have the homework finished and be prepared to explain what was done.
Next week we will re-drafting the basic pencil skirt and then making some modifications to the draft in order to create an A-line and tapered skirt. Be sure to have your kit and tracing paper, if you can get the 92 cm width if that's not possible then get whatever you can find and we will make it work. Please bring scotch tape and two different colour highlighters along with pencils and erasers.
Have a great week
Hello all for this week your homework is to cut out and mark a mock up of the skirt with rouching at the left princess line, get it ready to sew in class. Please bring your sewing machine next class.
You are also to finish the pattern pieces for the skirt with the side pleats and back box pleat as shown in the book. Please have the pieces complete with all the reference points marked with notches and grainlines etc. We will be placing them on mock up fabric in class, cutting out the skirt, marking the pieces with a tracing wheel and seeing the sewing machines are in class we will be sewing the mock up right on the spot! According to my clock we should be done by 9:00 pm! :)
Have a great week
Great news the course on Friday is a go!!! So welcome to the new students very happy to have you in my class! Please be sure you have your kits for the first night of class and tracing paper we are going to get down to business right away :)
You are entering the wonderful world of nice clothes that actually fit made by you for your special body shape in the colour/fibre/texture that suits your style/taste for a fraction of the cost to buy off the rack. You will be blown away by how very EASY it is to create your own garments with your only limitation being your imagination.
I look forward to meeting all of you and building a great relationship going forward.
