Hello all this is it, going into the last week of module 5 and the final exam. It will be an open book exam encompassing the two piece sleeve, Dolman sleeve, under collar, over collar and facing. There will also be questions and a comparison question. You were asked to draft a bodice front and back with a shawl collar with a specific set of measurements. For measurement chart click here
Next week we will continue with the blazer draft used in module 6, last night we started with the draft and went over the two piece sleeve once again. On display were the various pattern pieces necessary for the blazer and you were handed a sheet with a list of necesseties, to review click here Ideally I would like to finish the pattern pieces after the exam next week to be ready to fit the mock up on the first night of class in module 6 and start cutting. Module 6 is all sewing and the final mark with be the blazers' fit and workmanship. It will be so gratifying to see the work come to fruition, I hope all the students are able to take this final module as the culmination of one year's worth of studying! Hello all, your homework for this week is to draft a dress with mock princess lines, the hemline is student's choice, flared or mermaid look. If you choose to do the mermaid look please follow the instructions given in class, if your choice is the flared look follow the instructions on page 74. the hem can be flared up to 6 cm each side as well as the side seams and 3 cm at the centre back. Please trace the pattern pieces, mark them ready for use on Saturday. We will be cutting right on the fabric so be sure that all your personal adjustments are completed on the master pattern before tracing.
Have a great week! Hello all, this week you are going to be challenged by creating a skirt with centre front pleat on page 13.
You are to create one back and two fronts in the same manner as shown in the book. Please do not add the hem allowance. Remeber to add the 1 cm plumb line to the centre front and then add the pleat allowance. Just to re-iterate last night we created the A-line and tapered skirts as shown in the book using personal as well as assigned measurements. We also creaed the bias skirt where the dart is created on the paper and eliminated so on the fabric there will be the shaping without any actual dart either on the back or front. Keep those patterns for future reference. Hello all! Wow that class was intense!
For your homework this week please trace the pattern pieces for the 2 piece sleeve and bring them into class, also trace the pattern pieces for the lining that would go with the jacket you drafted in class. You are to name the pattern pieces, add markings and grainlines. Next week I would like to draft the pattern for your blazers so please have some idea of a design that you would like and include the following; shawl collar, either traditional or with a notch, slash pockets, two piece sleeve, single breasted with princess or mock princess lines. Hello laides! For this week if you have tried on only a mock up then you will cut and sew your dress at the princess lines on both front and back, sew the side seams as well as the centre back seam from the zipper down. Please interface the seam allowances only at the zipper opening. All students please show the adjustments (if any) made on the paper taken from the mock up. Remaining students please make the necessary adjustments to your dress as pinned in class. For next week we will draft the sleeves in class, cut and install them as well as the back lapped zipper, neckline facings and hem the dresses.
Hello and once again welcome to the wonderful world of pattern drafting! Wednesday was just a peak at pattern drafting, we start off with skirts because they are the best way to become familiar with the tools of the trade. We covered the language of sewing as well and received a measurement chart that you are to keep and fill in as you progress.
For your homework you are to create a pencil skirt pattern draft as shown in class, a back and front using either the measurements that were on the board or other measurements will be fine too. For next week please be sure to bring your kit, tracing paper, pencils, eraser, paper scissors and a notebook. Also please check the syllabus for an idea of what will be covered in the class. Thank you for registering, you can also check Blackboard for annoucements Hello ladies for this week it's easy homework! You are to create a pattern
using a graphic on page 72; choose one from graphic number 3, 5 or 6 at the bottom of the page. You are also to create the facing for said pattern. For next week we are going to draft a combination of the jackets on page 70 and 71 and the two piece sleeve storyboard. So bring a lot of paper! Hello folks just an update, today I had a SIX hour class at the festival and it was GREAT!!! Everyone had a great time and learned a lot too!

We will also be making the more in depth personal adjustments in class so keep in mind the adjustments made with the sheath top. Please try to finish the tunic tops as I recall there was not much left to do on them.
