This is an addition to the exam, there will be a spiral volant and sem-circle skirt on the exam. Please be sure you have studied them. What is another word for gore?
Those who were away last week, go over them and try to come in earlier on Wednesday to catch up with me, ask any questions or clarifications at that time. As I said we will be starting promptly at 7:00 pm.
I can't believe it, next week is the last class for the skirts module! It seems like we just started! The final exam will take place next week in the first part of the class. Students will be allowed 45 minutes to complete the tasks and it is a closed book exam, everything must be done from memory. Please bring in 3 different colour pencils, I will want students to show the base, A-line, tapered and bias cut skirts. A legend will be required to tell me which colour is used for which skirt, measurements will be given at the beginning of class. Please be on time, we will be starting PROMPTLY at 7:00. After the exam class will be shown how to install a waistband (some will be given instruction on how to install a zipper as well), class will then be shown how to hem a skirt properly. So please bring in your sewing machines again (sorry!). This will cap off all that you have learned these weeks by having a finished muslin you can refer back to when sewing your own skirts.
By the way, don't let the win go to your head students, on Wednesday we will be in class as usual working very hard!!! Be prepared with homework completed.
ciao, the taskmaster!!!
Hello all, just letting you know the Festival was a great success! We all learned sooooooo much! The competitors did an AMAZING job! They created an assymetrical dress, a reversable cape made with very hard to work with fabrics, a hat and boot covers they called LUX! In only THREE DAYS! I am soooooooo proud of them and they should be very proud of themselves. Only FOUR pattern drafting classes and a couple of training nights on tops, imagine what they can do next year!!!
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS FROM A VERY PROUD TEACHER!!!
Just in case anyone is interested, the students are doing a PHENOMINAL job on their project! I am not allowed to touch anything in the short time that I am allowed to visit, it's like putting an addict in a room full of temptation and telling them look but don't touch! The cape is almost finished and the dress is the next thing they are working on, then it's the accessories. Yes that's right they HAVE TO MAKE AND ACCESSORIES THE MODEL WEARS! Crazy isn't i?!
Hello all, hope the test wasn't too hard, I will be posting your grades on blackboard as soon as I get the test marked and they will be handed back to you next week. To those who missed the test please be sure you make this one up, it counts! You can make it up next class, please contact me to make arrangements.
For homework you were assigned to finish the mermaid skirt draft complete with all the necessary markings and to also trace and cut the pattern pieces as we did in class with the A-line gored skirt.
Please bring in muslin and sewing kit to cut and mark gored skirt mock-up. Bring tracing wheel and paper to expedite marking and please bring in sewing machines to start stitching mock-up. We will be covering the volant and circle skirts as well as the waistband/facings.
We are off to the competition, wish us luck!
Hello ladies, please bring in a couple of highlighters on Wednesday. A yellow and an orange one, thanks.
Hello ladies, for next week please finish your mock-ups complete with any adjustments required, pencil in the adjustments made on the paper pattern please. Also study the base draft both front and back as well as the terminology hand out from last class. There will be a short quiz on Wednesday on the materials covered in the last three classes.
On Wednesday we have been given permission to use room A217 to see if it will work for us before we make a decision on a permanent change.
That's all for now
Happy Thanksgiving to all, hope you have a safe and happy weekend.
Just a reminder for next week's class please bring your sewing machines, muslin/broadcloth, basic sewing kit (needles, thread, scissors etc.), the pencil skirt pattern cut out ready to be pinned on fabric and the bias skirt pattern that was assigned for homework. Please leave it in the draft stage, do not cut it out, we will cut and slash it in class.
Have a great day
