Hello ladies and congratulations on a job well done! For next week I would like you to bring in your mock ups from this past Saturday, please return them to their original look when you first tried them on. I would like to compare and analyze the similarities and differences between the adjustments from one person to the next. Sometimes, as we saw, the problem may look similar but the solution is different depending on where the "rays" point. The best way to see the solution is to analyze the problem, so this is what we will be doing as part of the next class. The tunic/dress will be finished next week by adding the neckline facing and a bias strip at the armholes. You will be creating your own strip so please do not purchase one, you will need some swimsuit elastic and a roll of "seams so soft". Please cut a couple of test pieces in the shape of a neckline and a couple in the shape of an armhole to practice adding the re-enforcements to the seam line. We will also be hemming the garments. If you like you can serge the edges of your project.
Also please bring in your drafting paper and tools to start on the next project in the afternoon, seeing you did such a FANTASTIC job this week and will be done in plenty of time to create a draft in class! And don't forget next class will start at 10:00 am to allow travel time due to the long weekend. Welcome to the brand new sewing class for tops! We are starting out small and building from there, so for Saturday please bring in your pattern pieces along with a mock up ready to be fit of a sleeveless dress or tunic (your preference), fabric and invisible zipper. Please be sure you have an invisible zipper foot for your sewing machine it will make life MUCH easier!
You will have 2 classes to complete this look so if there are issues with not being able to create a mock up in time for class no worries we can even cover that in class or you can catch up during lunch. I will not be able to stay any later than 4:00 as I have a prior commitment in Toronto that evening. You have the syllabus so refer to it or contact me if yoyu Hello all and sorry for the delay in writing your homework assignment. You are to add the collar, facings and sleeves to your dresses as shown in class on Monday. I will show you how to professionally finish the facing at the hemline on the centre front. We will also cover the button placement so please bring your buttons into class and we can compare the different looks and sizes. For next week we will also be covering the slash pockets and bound buttonholes so please bring in the extra fabric in contrasting colours.
The second half of the class will be to draft the robe with a shawl collar using three plain fronts with no darts as a storybord. It is essential that these fronts be drafted at home and brought into class on Monday or you will not have time to complete the storyboard and we will not be going over this method again in this module. We will be going on to the more tailored fronts with collars and two piece sleeves in the next classes. Hello folks, sorry I think they took some brain cells along with my hearing!
I forgot to details to the collar for next week. Please bring it in already interfaced. You can also stitch it together around the outside but just leave it, don`t trim it or turn it, just get it ready so it can be checked beforehand then it can be trimmed and pressed in class. Hello all, busy class last night! For next week please create either a muslin or fabric shirt dress with the yoke and two pleats as shown on page 65 with either a wing or notched collar. You have traced the pattern pieces in class for the front and should have created a back for last week's homework, if not you will need one back as well as a set-in sleeve. So for next week this is what you will need to do:
Hello ladies, just a reminder I will need 3 volunteers for the Festival's Project Catwalk to compete against the other Toronto fashion design schools. It's an experience you will never forget. The dates are October 12 to 14, competitors are there the whole time during show hours until 3:00 pm on Sunday when the competition ends and the adjudication begins. Please let me know by Monday if you are available as hotel/parking arrangements need to be made.
thank you Hello all I am so very happy to be back at work teaching all you wonderful students! For this week I would like you to draft the shirt dress on page 65 with the yoke and pleats coming from the shoulder. You are also to complete a back for the top we did in class and a set in sleeve. We will be drafting a set in sleeve in class as well as collars and adding the front overlap in class next week. Please have a back drafted as well for page 65. There will be a tutorial on the two piece sleeve next week.
The sewing classes will start on September 29, 2012 rather than this Saturday. So please sign up as there are only 3 spots left! Hello all and welcome back to the new school year! I have been out of touch because of the ear surgery, was not allowed to do anything at all especially reading to help with the dizziness associated with this type of surgery. Still a bit wozzy, almost like a drank too much but I'm on the mend slowly!
For the first class please bring about 10 bodice fronts and a few backs for storyboards on the dress with the Mandarin collar (page 58), strapless dress (page 75) and the top with notched collar on page 62. Also bring your paper in case we need to do some more drafting. I have slowed down considerably with the surgery so consider yourselves lucky that I'm taking it easy on you! See you next week! |
