Hello all, sorry for the delay in posting homework for this week, I have been away from my computer for a little while......
You are to create a strapless dress draft only. I would like one front and one back with a straight skirt and one front with a gored skirt the same as on page 74. So the top is stapless and the skirt part is gored on one FRONT ONLY. You only need to create one straight back. Those of you who missed last weeks class you have the added bonus of creating the dress on page 58 as well as a master front and back using all your personal adjustments.
Next week it's back to the collars and we will cover separate facings as well. Please try to be on time so we can get started right away.
Hello all, just wanted to re-iterate the homework for this week. Create the piping as I showed in class, if you are comfortable enough do a rolled edge on the bow and sew the knot together matching the notches, press it and turn it right side out.
Next week is our last week so please be sure all of this is done in order to finish the pillow.
Hello all, this is an easy week for homework.... all you have to do is finish the collar and sleeves on the mock up and if you are making a real shirt please finish it completely and bring it to class. I must compliment all of you on the fit of the shirts you really are grasping the concept of the drafts and how they relate to the body.
Next week we will be drafting TWO different dresses so be prepared with a lot of paper!
Hello all just to re-iterate your homework, the hand sewing you started in class, please practice holding the needle correctly, it will make life MUCH easier! practice machine stitching as well, the more you practice the better you will be.
Remember next week we meet at Fabricland in Barrie at 7:00 pm. You will have only 1 hour to shop so if you get there early and look around to get a general lay of the land (so to speak)..... hopefully they will have patterns for everyone.
Hello all, the pattern you are required to have for Monday's class is Simplicity 9873, we are making the pillow with the bias trim and piping around the edges. Please bring only the pattern to school as we will be going over the instructions and the fabric quantities during class and starting the project the following week. Don't forget your sewing machines, sewing kit etc. There is an elevator at the gym entrance for your convenience to bring the sewing machines upstairs.
Have a go
Hello all, just wanted to congratulate the class on a job well done on the robes! There were a couple of masterpieces!
For your homeowork this week you are to create a muslin sample of the shirt on page 65 that was drafted in class. Stitch together the body and bring in the sleeves ready to be basted on in class. By ready I mean the sleeves need to be sewn at the seam and the ease stitching in place. We will go over the collar one more time in the next class and elaborating on it.
Hello all and welcome to our Learn to sew course! Hope you all enjoyed last night's class, I know I did.
Your homework for this week is to finish the hand sewing as was started in class. Also keep working on your machine in the same manner as you did in class using different stitches and presser feet on a piece of fabric similar to the broadcloth used in class. Next week we are going to be attempting to sew around a circle. Be sure you purchase the pattern for next week, I will have the make and number listed in another announcenment.
This is to welcome my brand new class starting on Monday Sept. 12! Welcome all and I hope you have a fantastic time learning the "ropes" so to speak, of sewing. This course is designed to prepare students for the European pattern making courses as well as teaching the basics from the sewing machine, terminology, using basic construction tools at our disposal as well as how patterns are marked and of course
Hello all, sorry for the delay in writing, I have been away a couple of days. Your homework is to create a simple robe with a shawl collar and serged edges as demonstrated in class. It's a very simple procedure that won't take long to finish especially if you use the marking technique I showed you on Wednesday. Please baste the seams in place before sewing, it will make life a little easier. For next week we will be drafting a shirt that will combine the 2 techniques on page 65. One with front opening, yoke, pleats and with a wing collar. Of course there will be a set-in sleeve as well. You will be drafting a master pattern and then tracing the pieces and marking them accordingly. So bring lots of paper and pencils!
hello all, just wanted to let you know that our class has not been changed, we are still in A217. We were trying to get a different room but it turned out to be unavailable.
Looking forward to our class on Wednesday!
