Kudos on a job well done Maria! You were able to draft a pants back in a storyboard fashion and understand it in record time!
Your homework is to draft a pants back for yourself and another set of measurements, you are then to sew each one a mock up and fit them. We are going to use the remainder of the time to meet on skype and fit the other person with you pinning and then you will be fit with the other person fitting you! I'm sure the other person will be pleased to help, I can see the eyes roll now! You should be very proud of yourself for doing such a bang up job on the drafts! Have a great week! I want to thank these lovely ladies for coming from far and wide to learn the wonderful art of pattern drafting! I hope you enjoyed the class as much as I did! You accomplished a great deal in a short period of time you should be very proud of yourselves.
Your homework this week is to draft a new pattern using your personal measurements then create a mock up for yourselves. Please try on the mock up just for fun but don't pin it or do anything to it at all. We will analyze each one in class and see how the changes are made on the master pattern and pattern pieces. I also asked you to exchange measurements with a classmate and draft a new pattern with the different measurements, change the numbers the whole thing seems to change. Keep reciting the drafting two-step; 1, 2, 3, slide, 4, 5, 6, draw the line for the shoulder incline outloud as you are drafting. By doing that it will help you get into a rhythm minimizing mistakes. By the next class I will expect to hear everyone reciting the drafting two-step as they draft :) For the next class we will be making the necessary adjustments to the initial patterns to reflect body issues if any, the next thing will be to add more shaping to the front and back in the form of darts, princess lines and mock princess lines. If time permits we may touch on the set in sleeve as well. Quite a tall order but I know you ladies are up for the challenge! Have a great two weeks! Hello ladies no rest for the weary is there?!
The sewing class begins next week we will be doing a pajama pants complete with a serged elastic and no side seams. For this class please draft the pattern at home, we can do the necessary adjustments in class just to be sure they are accurate and bring to class the fabric, sewing machine, sewing kit, waistband elastic, lunch and an idea for the palazzo pants we will be working on week 2! If you would like to bring a serger as well that would be great! Have a great week! Well this doesn't happen often to have 2 classes without homework! I must be getting soft in my old age :)
This week I would like you to just digest the information you learned on Friday and it was a lot of information! Any questions that crop up along the way jot them down and ask them next week. For others reading this Ann is going ahead very quickly and is now starting the bodice section! Kudos to Ann for being so diligent with completing homework and doing so well on the surprise test I had in store for her last week after two weeks of being away! But she aced it without a problem! Have a great week Ann. Hello ladies what a great job you did on the mockups on Thursday! I don't think that there were any flaws on any of them and if there were they were very minor! Due to the complexity of the new pattern there is no homework this week I want all the work done in class. If you feel you would like to so something at home then you can do only the basic front and back with shaping at the side seams and the fish eye darts only, that is as far as you should go so the rest can be completed in class.
Have a great week! Welcome Maria to the wonderful world of pattern drafting! We are starting off with pants because you expressed a desire to attend the intensive weeks at Georgian College this July. I am doing this to make better use of our time together and cover as much fitting issues as possible in the time allotted. This week we covered pants front storyboard and you can see there is a lot of information to process especially because the measurements are entirely new to you in addition to the rulers book etc! You did a fantastic job in your first class! Your homework assignment is as follows: · Create another step 5 · Label the steps and staple together · Create a pants front using personal · Create a pants front using different measurements · Create a pants front up to step 2 using generic measurements Have a great week! Hello ladies very proud of your work on Wednesday! It was like starting all over again wasn't it? That is usually how it goes with everything, stay away from something for a while and it's all brand new when you go back to it.
For your homework you are to draft a new front and back complete with shaping and personal adjustments ready to add on cowl neck and cut fabric in class. Finish mock up of empire cut dress and bring it to class for checking. Let me know how the empire cut mock up fits when it is done don't think I can wait to see it in class :) Next week we are going to be working on the cowl neck dress/top so please bring your choice of fabric to class we will finish it in one day! Yes we will! Especially after the empire cut dress will fit perfectly there will be issues with the pattern :) Have a great two weeks! Hello ladies what a great job on Tuesday! A very productive class indeed! This week there is no homework other than to study for the exam. You will all breeze through it without a problem! I would suggest you practice a front and back using different measurements with a closed book as we did in class just so you find out what you don't know before the next class.
After the exam (it will be the first hour) I usually have a free class that students can choose what they want to learn. A few examples are more body issues and solutions, draft some capris with a dropped waist, add a yoke to the pants back or draft pants to get ready for the sewing class that will start on the following Tuesday. The choice is yours, if there is no opinion I will decide what the class will do :) Have a great week! Hello all by now I guess you all saw the syllabus and what the work is going to be. Like I said the actual instruction time is 35 hours but I feel that it can be done in 30 hours especially with such a talented group of ladies such as yourselves in the class!
For tomorrow please bring the following:
Looking forward to a fun day full of learning and laughs! Hello ladies homework is kept to a minimum in this module but tonight's class needs some stuff done at home to be ready for next class. Next week we will sew the mock ups together in class and fit them in the first half then go on to a new draft.
I have checked the patterns over and am satisfied the mock ups can be cut at home and marked ready to sew in class, leave the pattern on the fabric until I check it. Bring sewing machines next week please. Great class everyone I think you all understand this pattern very well, some had to re-learn how to do some things but that's why we have a class is it not? Have a great week! :) |
