Hello all I have been a busy beaver since the last blog post! We have put our house on the market once again and hopefully this time it will sell finally! That meant we had to get it "people" ready, photographer ready etc. Thank God for children, my daughter and her husband stayed and helped us get the house in ship shape and spit and polished it with great care and success! As all sewers know this means that everything and anything that needs to be "put away" gets plopped in the sewing room!!! I finally saw bottom today and now the whole house is in great shape ready for viewings.
I also have been battling a shoulder/neck injury that has been very painful it all started with a degenerated disc in my neck pinching a nerve down the arm of course it's my right arm, seemed to get better last summer, it was fine in the fall into winter and then in Mexico it flared up again. I have been to my doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist and so far no relief whether or not I take pain killers so I quit taking them if it makes no difference what's the point of taking meds? Anyway I'm going to see my doctor again and tell him to start all over again because since the fall my shoulder has dropped over 1 cm, my side seems to be crunching down and my shoulder blade is protruding on that side so there is more than just a pinched nerve at play here, at least in my opinion.....
In the meantime I managed to finish a dress I started last fall it was difficult but I'm happy with the results :)
There is quick explanation of the process, pleating is not for the impatient person! It takes time and patience to draft the pattern and pleat the fabric evenly for a more professional finish, I even finish the hem BEFORE pleating to better press everything. No worries about the length, make the pleated part longer than needed, cut it off the top if necessary.
Hello all I'm happy to say that the weekend retreats are full with the final student registering this morning! If you were interested in the class and still want to join please let me know and I will put you on a waiting list in the event there is a cancellation.
I am very happy to be teaching this to a students from Ottawa, Woodbridge, Phelpston and Creemore! It will be an interesting mix of women in this class they will learn a lot and I will learn a lot also from the students. We are going to be working on the bodice which as you know is the second most problematic to fit the body, pants being the first. If anyone out there wants to do a pants retreat along the same lines as the bodice please let me know I will be happy to accommodate.
Details of this program are on the home page Tuition for this class is $760 plus HST plus the kit if one does not already own a kit.
Hello all! I have one more spot left for the weekend retreats, if you are interested in pattern drafting and would like a condensed program this is the one for you! The start date is March 24 and 25, we will meet once a month for 4 months. We will be covering mostly drafting along with fitting the body, there will be some sewing as well and there will be homework, plenty of homework!
Don't let the homework discourage you from registering, you will actually LOVE it! I find students think of more homework assignments to do than are assigned, once you find out how well the patterns fit you will want to make more and more garments for yourself and/or others.
For more information please contact me I am always happy to answer questions.
Hello all it's been a while since my last post, we treated ourselves to a trip to the Mayan Riviera! We stayed at the most beautiful brand new resort ever! I was very impressed with it because of the service, excellent food, cleanliness but most of all the building itself and the grounds, all the stones, plants, wood etc. were re-purposed and used in the building/gardens/pools. The rooms are very modern and well appointed all with a view of the ocean/pools/rivers/caves. We were spoiled rotten at the rooftop pool in the adults only building.... yeah it was hard to come back to reality!
Anyway now it's back to work setting up classes for the spring. I have a weekend class starting in March, it was originally to start on the 17th but we had to delay a week to accommodate a student who is returning from a trip and was afraid of being too jet lagged to focus. There is still room for 2 more people to register for these monthly weekend classes. By having a class of 4 it will be very affordable for everyone plus it will be a great learning opportunity to have a variety of bodies to fit. If there are any distance students who can swing it to make the trip once a month for 4 months please consider this program it may not come around again for a while.
Have a great day,
Maria Calautti, "Jack of all trades"
