See you tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm in A221
Hello all due to the inclement weather I am postponing the start of module 2 from tonight to Thursday March 1, 2012. I hope this will not cause any incovenience for anyone, I would students rather be safe than sorry.
See you tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm in A221
Hello all, this is the end of the road for pants! Hope you all enjoyed it and learned something in the process.
For next week please study your base drafts for the front and back, learn the lines and their uses, there will be a reference to the pants with no side seams as well. The rest is all materials covered in class and very easy short answers. Practice your drafts at home, you will be allowed only 60 minutes to complete the exam. Please be prompt, exam will start at 7:00 pm.
Afterwards there will be some more sewing. We will learn how to create flat fell seams, fake flat fell seams, topstitching using the guide foot and properly finished seams for pockets. Bring enough muslin/broadcloth pieces measuring 30 cm X 20 cm to create samples for your reference library. Cut out a front pocket in a couple of different styles, one curved and one diagonal, to practice again pockets once again. Please have the pocket openings interfaced on the wrong side and don't forget the twill tape! So basically bring in a pants front with two different shaped pockets
It will be a fun class, if anyone has any show and tell please bring it in as well
Hello all, please study for the final exam, you will be required to draft and there will be questions as well. The exam is closed book, no worries you already know all there is to know about skirts. The volant and semi/full circle skirts will be on as well.
For next week please bring in one side of a semi-circle skirt to hem and the mock up created in class along with extra fabric to cut out a waistband and a zipper to install in the skirt. Sewing machines will be required for this class.
Hello ladies, ideas come to me in my sleep, lucky you! As you know next Monday there is no class so due to the length of time away from drafting I think it would be beneficial for all of you to draft a pants front and back on your own using your template for placement of the French curve, your own personal measurements and adding front pockets and a front fly. The repetition is the best way to retain the information.
Hello all and kudos on a job well done with the pockets and we will re-visit the zipper next class so please bring back your sewing machines as well as the drafting supplies, we will also be drafting pants with no side seams and hemming pants. So a busy time.
Have a great family day next week!
GREAT JOB! Kudos go out to the organizers, what a lot of work putting it all together! The designers did a FANTASTIC job one and all. I especially liked the fact there were elementary school participants. It is so refreshing to see very young girls take an interest in such an old art. The high school students did a great job as well.
As for the European Pattern Making students, what can I say? They did their teacher proud! What a thrill to have 3 of my students in the top 5! The fit and workmanship was AMAZING! I could not have asked for more from them. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was there.
GREAT JOB LADIES!!! KEEP IT UP!
Hello all great job last Saturday! You all went home with finished skirts, what a great feeling of accomplishment! For next class, the circle/semi-circle skirt we will be making it with an elastic waistband so please be sure you have the correct elastic, 3 cm wide, and the correct length. If you skirt is an unusual colour and you would like to match the serging thread please provide it as I only have basic colours. The fabric should be a soft, flowing weave that drapes well and has weight to it. You will be learning how to correctly stitch the hemline with a rolled edge on your sewing machine. I know the skirt is to hang for 3 days, but this time we will speed things up a bit with the iron.
Hello ladies, the coats are coming along spectacularly well! For next class please be sure you have your mock up stitched together for the first fitting. Once the fitting is done we will go ahead and make any changes you desire to the finalize the pattern pieces before cutting the fabric. Until now they are only lines on paper and can be changed, once the fabric is cut, the design is pretty much carved in stone so don't be afraid to make changes at this point.
See you soon, have a great 2 weeks!
This week is going to be very easy for all. No homework assignment, however if you so choose to create a gored skirt using your personal measurement you would test yourself to see what you really learned and if you can use the storyboard effectively.
Next week we will be going drafting the mermaid skirt as well as the circle skirt and volants.
Hello all and FANTASTIC job on the tests!!!
For next week we will be doing some sewing, installing pockets as well as a front fly zipper, so please bring the following:
Maria Calautti, Jack of all trades!
