Welcome one and all!! This is such an exciting class I can't wait to get started! We are in room M134 in the new Sadlon wing, so if you park in the main parking lot across from this building, come in the main doors and make a left at the Tim Horton's, the classroom is located almost at the end of the hall to the right.
See you all tonight have a safe journey in.....
Hello ladies what a great way to start the year off! In class you were to create 3 fronts with different base dart transfers as shown in your book. You were also asked to create an asymmetrical front as shown on the bottom of the same page with the added feature of transferring the base darts to the neckline.
Hello ladies and job well done today! You were given a lot of information today and a lot of homework to do!
You were asked to do all the padstitching on your blazers, add the twill tape to the roll line as well as the centre front seam line just to the edge of the interfacing, leaving all the seam allowance free, using an catchstitch as shown in class. The point of this is to give a nice sharp edge to the centre front and hold the interfacing in place without actually machine stitching it down.
You are also to cut out the pocket pieces as discussed in class, they will be added to the welts next week. Like I said in class the real trick is to get the second side exactly the same as the first side for the jacket to look right, so good luck with the other welt! Next week we will be sewing the blazer together so please have all the pieces cut out and marked with all the necessary markings from the pattern pieces.
Please bring in some tailor's pride or felt pieces as well as the twill tape (1 cm) to tailor the armhole and sleeves, all the lining pieces as well.
Have a great week! don't forget to register for the Jan. 30 class
Just an FYI to my returning students please register ASAP if you would like to join the pants class there are only 6 spots left and filling quickly.
Hello ladies! The blazer you are making is turning out fantastic! The mock up is usually a good indicator of the finished product so I think you will be very pleased!
For next week please have the pattern pieces cut and marked, DO NOT REMOVE THE PATTERN PIECES UNTIL I CHECK THEM. We will be sewing together the centre front and side front, adding the pockets before starting on the interfacing. Please be sure you have the correct pocket placement for yourself, and practice the welts, the dimensions are in the back pages of book 1 and the instructions as well.
Have a great week!
Hello all just wanted to let everyone know that the senior class will be participating in fashion shows on April 5, 2014 and April 9, 2014.
The challenge was issued early in the fall semester:
The challenge: amount of money permitted to be spent on this project is $0!
Main fabric has been very generously donated by Beker fashions and handed out by instructor. Students are only allowed to use contrasting fabrics/notions that are already in their possession. Fabrics/notions may be traded between students but no money is to change hands. Everyone has a “stash” so put it to good use and students are welcome to come to my studio and choose further fabrics from the “Beker stash”
Students will be their own models for the garments created. The choices are; an evening gown, cocktail dress or formal daywear.
For a second garment participants may wear their favourite outfit created while studying book 1.
The finale will be an avant garde outfit created by a group of volunteers. Hair and make-up will be discussed closer to the date. Good luck to all and have fun!
Hello ladies! Great job on drafting the blazer today!
Your homework is to trace the pattern pieces that were listed in class. You are to cut and sew a mock up ready to fit in class next week.
You are also to trace the pattern pieces for the two piece sleeve to include in your storyboard as part of step 7. Please cut apart the steps and place them on top of each other then staple them so they resemble a flip chart making it easier to see the steps for future reference. Also if you have chosen a natural fibre for your blazer please pre-shrink the fabric before it is cut next week, the interfacing as well as the twill tape should be pre shrunk as well.
So for next week the supply list is as follows:
Directions: come up highway 400 to highway #11, continue to Oro-Medonte line 5 to go over the bridge to the soughbound side of the highway, the school is located right at the first Shell gas station on the right hand side. When going northbound you will see the gas station and school on the left.
Hello all the sewing class the directions to my studio are posted above, I will be there in the morning only. Just a reminder this is not at Georgian College this is my private school where you to be graded for your final exam. Sorry for the delay in writing I have been away with no access to internet.
